The Legislation:

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Reform Act would greatly increase the budget and authority of the CPSC – the government agency charged with protecting the public from the dangers posed by more than 15,000 types of consumer products, from power tools to furniture polish. The bill would also raise civil and criminal penalties for companies selling unsafe products, ban the sale of products recalled as unsafe, and require independent certification of all children’s products, among other measures.
